Kevin Johnson is an award winning Director and a veteran in the animation industry with more than twenty years of experience. He is currently Supervising Director at Universal on their iconic franchise Curious George and prior to that directed a feature film, Dog Gone Trouble which just debut at #1 on Netflix over Memorial weekend.

 

Kevin excels in every area of animation, from storytelling when he was Head of Story on Astroboy for Imagi, a Hong Kong based studio, to creative consulting on the Zula Patrol, a CGI animated TV series for PBS. Kevin’s animation experience runs the gamut of styles from traditional hand drawn animated films such as The Iron Giant to visual effects spectacles such as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and the Hybrid-comedic installment of Fox’s feature film Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.

 

While at Sony Pictures Imageworks Kevin taught classes on character animation and story in the training department then worked as head of story on the academy award winning, short film, The Chubb Chubbs.  Following this he created and directed Early Bloomer, a theatrically released short film, which also won numerous awards and juried prizes at various film festivals worldwide.

 

Kevin routinely shares his knowledge and experience with industry professionals and for more than eighteen years he has taught Animation to students at California Institute of the Arts, one of the world’s most prestigious schools to offer Character Animation. His speaking engagements and workshops have taken him all over the world, from Australia to Taiwan to Israel, India, Japan, China, Hawaii, MIT in Massachusetts, and Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida.

 

Kevin is constantly developing new ideas across different formats. He loves telling stories and finds the medium of animation allows him the most exciting and creative way in which to tell them.

 

Kevin is a graduate of Southern Oregon University in Ashland Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in Mathematics. He further studied Character Animation at California Institute of the Arts.
